we are glad to welcome you to our online shop and we would like to present our high-quality extra virgin olive oil.
Our olive oil is from our own cultivation, from the farmers of the island of Corfu and Nemea.
The Corfiot Lianolia Olive has been grown on the island since Venetian times. In the 16th century, the Venetians paid, in order to secure their own oil reserves, a premium of 360 drachma per hundred planted olive trees. The predominant wine culture disappeared and soon whole forests of olive trees covered the island. Today there are about 4 million olive trees in Corfu.
Already Homer spoke of olive trees in his Odyssey. He mentioned olive trees in the garden of the palace of the king of the Faiaken. This reference is the oldest assumption of the existence of olive trees on the island of Corfu. What sort of olives these were and why they have disappeared, nobody know until today.
A little taste of our new olive oil!
After Spiros has mowed the grass in the olive groves, we can lay out the nets for the olive harvest.
Due to climatic conditions in the maturation phase, we expect a not quite as productive harvest as last year.
But we can be confident that we will get an excellent olive oil again.
Preperations for the Harvest!
We submitted the application for the organic certification for our olive trees! The first meeting with the responsible authority, Bio-Hellas, has been successful! At a second meeting, Bio-Hellas will look at our olive groves. What changes for you? Nothing, except that in the future you can find an organic certification on our olive oil bottles and olive oil canisters.
You can find us also on Facebook: Sgouros Olivenöl
You are welcome to buy our products directly at our depot as well.
Best wishes, the Sgouros family
Straight from our olive groves to Bavaria!
Sgouros Olive Oil flies high! Thanks a lot to Slackliner Friedi Kühne!
November 2003: 14 years ago, Spiros already worked in his own olive groves to produce his own olive oil!
Back in the 1950s in Spartilas as well as today (harvest October 2014) the olives are collected in baskets and get delivered to the oil mill for further processing immediately.
